Classroom Minigrants
Thank you note from students
CF Industries’ Classroom Minigrant Program provides assistance to creative teachers who develop innovative learning experiences. This program is available to schools located in communities where CF operates distribution facilities.
The goal of the program is to improve agricultural and environmental literacy. Teachers apply for grants to incorporate experiments, field trips, and special projects to challenge students as they learn about the environment and agriculture in their communities. Grants average approximately $275, although larger amounts may be available to help fund projects that reach more students.
Since the Classroom Minigrant Program began in 1998, CF Industries has awarded more than $420,000 under the program and continues to award more than $50,000 annually. More than 12,000 students in 50-plus schools participated in minigrant programs in 2006.
What sort of projects does the program sponsor? Learn about a Biodiesel Project at the Velva Public School in Velva, North Dakota; an Environmental Project at Mount Vernon Junior High School in Mount Vernon, Indiana; a study of Soils, Sediments, and Glacial Aquifiers at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood, Minnesota; a project on Water Quality and Migratory Patterns at Ritzville Grade School at Ritzville, Washington; and one on Environmental Art and Poetry at Oakville Elementary School in St. Louis, Missouri.
