More than 400 K-5 students at Oakville Elementary School in St. Louis, Missouri produced a book with an environmental theme using art and creative writing. Pen and ink drawings, watercolor illustrations, computer graphics, Haiku poetry, and essays on the environment were among the artistic disciplines students used to create the book.

Students researched environmental topics including pollution, recycling, conservation, and endangered species. The students then produced illustrations and creative writing on these subjects and submitted them for inclusion in the book. Every grade level was represented in the final product, which was placed in all school libraries.
