Harold Falls presenting a Chemistry demonstration
Harold Falls presentation

Harold Falls, the Chief Chemist at the company’s Plant City, Florida phosphate fertilizer complex, regularly shares his knowledge of chemistry with students in local schools. His goal is to promote understanding and interest in science.
These lessons are part of Operation Chemistry, an educational program originally initiated to help science teachers present lessons on chemistry and chemicals. The CF Industries Chief Chemist was one of the experts trained to work with teachers in the program. When teachers attending the program saw how interesting chemistry could be, some of them began inviting Falls to conduct demonstrations for students on basic matter, the physical properties of chemicals, and chemical reactions.
For nearly 15 years, students in elementary, middle, and high school science classes have been learning from these lectures and experiments. Harold tailors the demonstrations to the grade level and makes the lessons interactive, incorporating fun along with learning. Signature workshops have included making ice cream using liquid nitrogen and a demonstration of chemical reactions timed to the “William Tell Overture.”
