Field investigation and classroom soil analyses
Field trip for students of Minnewaska Area High School
![]()
During a class trip to a farmer’s field, eighth grade students at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood, Minnesota collected soil samples and recorded their observations about the field and its soil. A trip to a gravel pit provided opportunities to analyze and classify sediment and hear from a local well driller about aquifers and how wells are drilled.
Through field investigation and classroom soil analyses, students learned about soil erosion and conservation, soil characteristics, and the relationship between the water they drink and groundwater.
