On October 13, 1908, Fritz Haber filed for a patent on the “synthesis of ammonia from its elements.” Global Fertilizer Day celebrates this world-changing discovery.

Haber’s discovery led to the Haber-Bosch process, which gave the world fertilizer, which, in turn, made it possible to grow enough food to feed the world. Simply, fertilizer, along with the widespread adoption of agricultural technologies, has lifted millions out of poverty and protected them from famine.

Often considered one of the most important inventions of the 20th Century, we celebrate the incredible impact the Haber-Bosch process has had on our lives, and look forward to continuing to fulfil our role in feeding the world while being good stewards of the environment around us.
