The Iowa Department of Agriculture has presented CF with the Iowa Ag Leader Award for outstanding leadership in improving Iowa’s water quality.

Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey cited CF’s leading role in the launch of the 4R Plus program in Iowa. CF worked with The Nature Conservancy and 30 partners to build the 4R Plus program. It will provide Iowa’s farmers with additional resources to support sustainable agricultural practices, with the goal of becoming a blueprint for other states to adopt to improve their own water quality.

4R Plus involves using both precise nutrient stewardship practices and targeted conservation practices. The 4Rs of nutrient stewardship stand for Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time and Right Place. The “Plus” in 4R Plus refers to conservation practices that increase the resiliency of soil, reduce erosion and improve water quality.
